asking too much

Tanner is one of the sweetest most real people I know. He sure isn't perfect, but he isn't trying to be. He just tries to be himself and do the right thing.
He's deep. We have really deep discussions about life and love and everything and he totally understands things from a girls perspective. Not that I like him, but he is the ideal boyfriend. The things he does for his Emily.. it makes my heart break from how good he is to her. I told him he needed to write a book or give tutorials to every guy out there because they're all hopeless idiots. He just laughed.

We had a conversation earlier. The nature of the conversation led me to tell him that he was the greatest and I love him to death. He responded,
"Mackenzie, you just made my day. :) I think you are outstanding and sweet and beautiful and smart and funny and outgoing and just a rose among thorns! You deserve the best."
I said, "Thank you so much Tanner, you are too sweet. :)"
"No, there is no such thing as too sweet! Just honest and telling you what I think you should be hearing daily!"
"Do you think I should hear that daily? Isn't that asking too much?"
"That isn't asking too much at all. It may not be said exactly like that all the time but I think you should be told that exact thing with a look from a guy, a hug, a kiss, from holding his hand, and having him say it to you."
"Really? Oh, Tanner, I am so grateful to have you around. Your wisdom is wonderful! Emily is so lucky to have you!"
"Well I'm always here for you Mackenzie :) Any guy would be lucky to have you. I am lucky to just have you as a friend."
This kid knows how it's done.
He always makes me feel like I deserve the best the world has to offer. He reminds me that I am special and unique and loved. He shows me how a girl ought to be treated. Talking to Tanner is so refreshing whenever I feel like I'm not worth much effort or love.
